Homework 1 CSE 630 Jason Kim 1. okay subscribed 2. A. intelligence: the process of human thought, given information it is able to understand what is going on. The book calls it a system of Rationality, which is a system does the "right thing" with the given information. B. artificial intelligence: intelligence that is created by by an intelligent being that is designed to mock or copy real intelligence C. agent: something that acts and makes a choice based upon information, in the case of computers it's able to do more than just be a simple program. 3. A. No the Jabberwacky does not meet my definition of intelligence. In fact after interacting with it, I thought it was pretty bad. :(, after the 3rd message I was able to make it repeat a response and make it clear it was an automated response. B. No, the Turing Test is not a good way to check if a response comes from a computer or a person to determine intelligence. A person can act like a computer response, which throws off the test. 4. I would go for reasoning abilities, a computer can recieve alot of information for pre-determined responses for senses, however when given new current events from the real world a computer cannot give new reasoning statements on the fly. An example of this would be, someone posts a question on a political debate on a completely new issue that happened in the last 10 minutes and asks you what you feel on the issue. A Computer could come up with a pre-made response but it would be wrong because it wouldn't be able to formulate new information on a completely new issue. 5. No, it just makes the computer better at him in Chess. It proves the AI criticism. Can the computer program play checkers? can it play chinese chess? can it wash dishes? Can it learn to do so on its own? No. 6. Bees 1, Humans 0 (2002) -The Agent failure in this is the knowledge that putting a plastic bag over your head can cause suffocation. This is pretty common knowledge, that apparently S?o Paulo forgot. Copper caper (1999) -The Agent failure here is the ability to understand your surroundings and know what you are interacting with. Wayne didn't know he was cutting a powerline, he thought it was just a normal piece of copper Workin at the car wash (2003) -The Agent failure here is another failure of common knowledge, gas vapors is flammable.
